What is a Static (or fixed) Radiation Detector?

A static or fixed radiation detector is a device that monitors radiation in a single location. They are often used in areas of national security, such as airports, railways, and ship terminals.

Static detectors can be placed at key transport routes to track the movement of radioactive material. They are designed to scan continuously, and are normally connected to a central command point, which will be alerted if anything is detected. Teams can then be deployed to address the identified threat using wearable or handheld detectors.
