High accuracy Radioisotope Identification Device

D5 RIID is a small, light, 3.5% resolution wearable RIID with an expansive radioisotope library and an ultra low false alarm rate. It continuously scans and accurately identifies radiological threats in real time, even in mixed source environments.

The D5 RIID’s small size and weight along with high sensitivity make it ideal for prolonged onehanded security screening operations, as well as discreet monitoring within airports and other critical infrastructures. The accurate isotope ID performance enables efficient adjudication of radiation alarms, to help minimise disruption while providing reliable information for operational decision making. The stored files can be easily sent to third party experts for Reachback and adjudication.

The D5 RIID is also ideal for expert users with responsibility for responding to radiation incidents and making informed decisions. The isotope ID accuracy, as well as the high spectral quality enables accurate threat identification and classification even in mixed source environments.

Long Battery Life

Versatile battery management system enables long operating life. The device has an internal rechargeable battery and replaceable batteries which can be used either by themselves or together.
The internal rechargeable battery is charged via the USB port. While the three standard AA batteries can be accessed and replaced without using any tools in the field, meaning you do not need to halt or end a mission early.

Sensor Networking

The D5 RIID can be easily integrated into a customer’s network platform. The alarm, dose, and isotope ID are given as an output by the detector for integration. This enables a single control point for multiple integrated sensors, rather than using each one individually. Alternatively, a networked solution can be provided with detector purchase which provides a turnkey solution to observe a group of detectors.

D5 RIID New Features

We’re pleased to announce an update to the D5 RIID which brings new features and easier navigation of data to aid use in the field.

Localisation Mode

Localisation mode allows a user to pinpoint the location of a radioactive source. During normal scanning, the device will sound a tone approximately once per second. As the device moves closer to a radioactive source, the interval between these tones decreases so that there are more tones per second. The shorter the interval between tones, the closer the user is to a source. This tone can be audible or vibrational and is aided visually by a graph showing the gamma counts per second in yellow and the neutron counts per second in blue.

Viewing Spectral Data

The spectral data which accompanies every collected confirmation mode scan has been enhanced to give more information. The “scale” button can be used to move through the spectrum to see all energies. The up and down buttons on the D5 RIID controls can be used to navigate the cursor to give the exact counts per second data at a chosen energy.

Remote Mode

This mode allows a user to take readings, even when the device is at a distance. Entering remote mode on the D5 RIID and connecting it to a laptop or PC via USB or Bluetooth allows a user to utilise the D5 Settings App to remotely initiate and collect data from a scan without manually pressing the D5 RIID controls. The spectral data is saved in ANSI N42.42 file format. It is also possible to perform scans of the background radiation levels in the same way. This ensures the safety of the operator and speeds up the process of collecting data.

Configuration Tool

The D5 RIID configuration software allows customers who use Kromek detectors, to configure connection, setup and device functions, in order to tailor their detector to a specific application. With the configuration tool you can change the configuration of one or more devices and it also supports backup and restoration of device configuration and generates diagnostic reports to assist with finding the solution to any potential device issue. The configuration can also be cloned onto other devices, so you don’t have to updated the device with the new settings every time.
