Are you looking for a challenging career with a purpose and a global impact? If yes, join one of the world’s most innovative technology companies.

We are seeking a Crystal Growth Scientist who can deliver both innovation and continuous improvement in Kromek’s compound semiconductor radiation detectors though detailed understanding of crystal growth process and its implications on materials morphology and chemistry. You will serve as part of a small team to understand the implications through device performance and into applications performance.

Key responsibilities and duties

  • Delivers a clear understanding of how the crystal growth process influences bulk morphology and chemistry.
  • Delivers a clear understanding of how the crystal growth process and bulk morphology and chemistry affect the semiconductor materials and surface properties of Kromek’s detector materials.
  • Communicates the above understanding throughout the Kromek organization.
  • Creates a clear plan that identifies the prioritization of parameter characterization by demonstrating with supporting evidence the influence of these key characteristics.
  • Develops and implements the instrumentation and metrics required for both materials’ characterization during crystal process development and production manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Physics, Materia Science, or equivalent with a demonstrated focus in solid state physics, crystal growth and materials chemistry
  • Minimum experience could be a PhD. in Physics, Chemistry of Material Science with courses in Crystal Growth, Crystallization, pharmaceutical solids, or Material Solids
  • Post Doctoral research in Crystal Growth Science – Post doctoral in Physics, Chemistry of Materials science would be beneficial.
  • Desired experience of 2-5 years in a results-oriented research and development role growing bulk crystals in a commercial or industrial organization.
  • Experience working with industrial scale, high temperature furnaces, including using torches, welding the quartz, handling materials, growing samples etc. is desired.
  • Utilizes careful hypothesis generation and experimental testing.
  • Clear and open communicator who places value on seeking consensus and support for courses of action based on careful hypothesis generation and experimental testing.
  • Openness to change, new ideas and utilization of broad networks.
  • Influence and persuasion to communicate cohesive arguments to generate change.
  • Strong collaborative spirit
  • Strong willingness and ability to learn
  • Perseverance to face and engage in long term and complex programs and maintain positive approaches through out the many phases of the programs
