Making the world a safer and healthier place, beyond radiation detection

Since our Volunteering Programme was launched at Kromek’s 20th Birthday last May, our UK staff have been rolling their sleeves up and getting involved with a variety of local charities and community projects, extending our reach beyond radiation detection.

This initiative gives each member of staff the opportunity to spend up to 20 hours of paid volunteering leave lending out a helping hand to a cause they care about. Here’s what the team have been up to so far:

St Margaret’s Centre

Back in July 2023, some of the Kromek team got hands-on at St Margaret’s Centre, and spruced up the craft room with some fresh layers of paint. This new lease of life in the craft room will help visitors and attendees to feel inspired and at ease whilst getting stuck into some creative activities.

Durham Lumiere

Collaborating with Artichoke, our Head of Product Design John Atkins designed solar-powered, diamond-shaped lanterns to be assembled by Primary School Children from across County Durham. Once having added their own artistic flare to each of the lanterns, the children’s diamonds illuminated Durham as part the Diamond Garden light installation at Lumiere 2023.

Combining the powers of art and technology, this project shone some light on the importance of renewable energy, all-the-while encouraging children to get creative.

Feeding Families

Just last week, two members of our UK team headed on over to Feeding Families here in Sedgefield by our HQ. Packaging up food to send to those in need, our team helped contribute to Feeding Families’ mission of ensuring those most vulnerable have access to food.

We are extremely proud of everything our team have gotten involved in; expanding our mission of making the world a safer and healthier place beyond the bounds of radiation detection.

Now we can’t wait to see what they do next!
