Starting with 2 people in an office in County Durham, Team Kromek has now grown to over 150 colleagues in the last 20 years, spanning 2 continents.
Dr Basu has a PhD in physics from Durham University, specialising in semiconducting sensor materials. He held senior management positions in his family business, serving over 250 major telecommunications and consumer electronics manufacturers, including Siemens and GEC. He also worked in commercial product development for Elmwood Sensors Ltd (Honeywell Group, UK). A prominent figure within the business community, Dr Basu was awarded EY ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ (2009) and received an MBE for services to regional development and international trade in 2014.
Claire Burgess is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. She is a seasoned CFO with over 18 years in senior finance positions. Most recently, Claire was Financial Director of Advanced Electric Machines Group Ltd (“AEM”), a designer and manufacturer of magnet-free electric powertrain technologies. Her career began as an auditor at Ernst & Young before joining KPMG Corporate Finance in lead advisory. She then spent a decade in corporate banking working with businesses in both the public and private sectors. Over the past 12 years she has been in senior industry finance roles in high growth businesses, primarily in the engineering and technology sectors across the UK and US. Claire has a proven track record in strategic and operational leadership having led finance functions through complex transformations supporting rapid business growth. Claire brings a hands-on yet strategic approach, well suited to the Kromek of today.
Mr Beumer is a technology business executive with extensive experience of delivering revenue growth in analytical instrument, high-frequency communications equipment, and optoelectronic and semiconductor materials industries. He has held several senior roles while working both in Europe and the US with AkzoNobel and Allied Signal and was Division President and General Manager of Taconic’s US, Europe, and Asia operations. Prior to joining Kromek, he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing at XOS, Inc., a Danaher Company. During his tenure at XOS, Inc., Mr Beumer was responsible for driving the strategic direction of their x-ray elemental technology business, positioning the company as a global leader in application specific elemental analysis solutions for the petroleum and consumer products industries.
Our headquarters are based in Sedgefield in County Durham, situated on NETPark (North East Technology Park). The Park is one of the UK’s premier science, engineering and technology parks.
We grow CZT in Pennsylvania, as well as manufacture a lot of our other products. It is also home to some of our Homeland Security experts as well as the centre for our SPECT and other medical imaging work.
Our Californian team specialises in custom research and design, development, testing and marketing of OEM components, detectors, ASICs, instruments and imaging systems.
Our office in Huddersfield is where our specialist team of neutron and gamma-ray detector researchers. They look at new detector technology, ASICs and the supporting electronics.
